Blue Screen on shut down …vxd..
If this helps.
I have for the past 3 weeks tried to get Windows ME stable on my machine. Using this site and various other I have tried hundreds of different configurations all to no avail.
Then last night I decided to start again, I downloaded all the latest drivers for my system making sure that none were just updated windows 9x drivers. Rebuilt my system and to my surprise success. My system was running great so before I went any further I ran the system restore programme to back up this working set-up.
It was then that I remembered that I had not installed my HP 3300 Scanner so install I did.
Blue Screen on shut down …vxd..error
Running system restore to test my system righted this problem. So off to HP for the latest drivers and before I new it I had a stable system again.
Happy.
I think that because my scanner gets so little use I have constantly overlooked this as being the problem always looking deeper. I should have realised from experience having many a problem in the past with HP driver on various configurations of windows. Being a PC installation and systems engineer you would think I would have sussed it earlier.
This problem my not be localised to HP as a friend had the same problem with a cannon scanner the only link is that his and mine are both USB.
So if anyone is getting this type of error I hope this helps.
Shaun
ps
i do not seem to have had the occational blue screen at startup either

you are so right i had the same problem untill i managed to get the right drivers for my scanner. i think you would agreee with me that when upgrading to ME good practice is not to use drivers that were for win98

I had problems with my scanner (hp 3300c), so I went to hp website and downloaded the ME version of the driver.....my scanner still doesn't work properly. However, now that I've installed the updated driver for it, I no longer have a problem shutting down. I guess you can't win them all....but it'll do for now.
