I've got a serious problem with my other computer. I just installed a CD-RW drive in it and I know for sure 100% that I installed it right... all the cables are correct - I've checked a million times. Ok, the problem has to do with the drive, this is a very weird error. Everytime I boot up the computer, as soon as I get into Windows, this blue screen error comes up:

"An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C00C715 in VXD VFAT (O1) + 0000CC25. This was called from 0028: C1829870 in VXD voltrack (04) + 00000430. It maybe possible to continue."

And after that the computer crashes. Once in a while it stays alive for a bit. This blue screen also comes up whenever I OPEN the drive too? This is really weird... like, when I turn on the computer and there's a CD in it while its booting, the blue screen isn't there sometimes. But if there's NO cd in the drive, it always comes up and crashes 100% of the time. The CD-RW drive I bought is by Khypermedia if that means anything... a 52x,24x,52x drive. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? It's crippling... I can't do anything, please help - Thanks.

Hi, if you mean the master/slave things, yes they are. My hard drive is Primary Master and CD-RW is Secondary Master. The previous drive which I'm replacing (a dvd drive) used this same configuration... and that drive never had any problems. Are you sure it's the hardware?

I've tried everything... trying different cables, switching to slave and nothing seems to work.
When I was talking about "leaving a cd in while the PC boots" and how the computer works fine when I do that, the cd drive works...it reads the CD and I can use it fine (like I installed digital camera drivers with it). BUT, when I press the button to open the drive, boom... that's when the blue screen comes up. This only works like maybe 50% of the time if that. And if I don't put a cd in while it boots, it 100% of the time blue screen crash.

sol2382, SWAG, dunno for sure. Is it possible there are other drivers needed? Did you install a new one or are you still using the one you had?
HTH.
