Maybe a high CPU warning via BIOS ?
Might want to look inside and see if dust and the like is gumming the cooling fans...just a thought

Keep the old stuff running

True enough, omniscience is a trait of deities - - still, it's not unreasonable to expect you to be aware of the version of Windows you're running - the assumption is WinME, based on forum choice (although that's far from guaranteed)

As suggested, could be a heat warning - you might consider installing temperature monitoring software to determine if this is the case - you could also take a look at the BIOS - maybe the alarm settings are too low

BIOS settings are accessed through the CMOS setup program, which you invoke by a keypress or key combination during system startup, usually just after the memory count
There should be instructions onscreen - otherwise:

How do I get into CMOS?

You'd be looking for system health or hardware monitor, etc.

If it is a heat problem, and your alarm settings aren't too low, it may be that you'd need to clean & reapply the thermal compound between the heatsink and CPU
