Tried to install software and now I can't get my monitor to display logon. When booting up monitor signal goes green then yellow but nothing is displayed on it. You can hear the drive running but nothing comes up on the monitor.

If you can, try using another monitor. This is a guess, but I think you might need a new monitor.

Please give the full circumstances leading up to the problem. What software? Did it install completely? Did you get a normal reboot at all?

Sounds like something is interfering with Windows loading. Try loading in safe mode and removing what you were trying to install. The link wwd gave you has good suggestions for getting going again, too.

I tried the startup booddisk but that didn't work. I disconnected the monitor cable and the following words came up on the screen, check the signal cable came up on the screen, but when I connected the cable to the computer the green signal light came on and then it turned yellow. You can still hear clicking like it wants to start but it doesn't.

OK, so if I have this straight, the monitor works on another pc. So you can rule that out. Now you have to consider the game that your son has thoughtfully trashed your pc with has probably overwritten the graphics or directX drivers. Best thing is to boot to safe mode (press and hold F8 key while pc is booting up), allow windows to load in safe mode which will not load drivers that are causing the problem. Now do a system restore back to a time when pc was working ok and reboot when done.

Alternatively you could try a SCANREG /RESTORE
command from the A:> prompt once you have booted the pc from a bootable floppy disk, then choose a previous dated registry to restore from.
Note space between SCANREG and /RESTORE

I tried starting it holding the F8 but the monitor still does not display anything. Why is it that whenever the monitor cable is disconnected from the computer the signal light turns green on the monitor, but when I connect the cable it turns yellow on the monitor? I can't see anything on the screen and cannot do a system restore.
