I have a Problem about Burning cd's and My DVD canno't play in this Laptop (Windows Millenium Edition) that iam using! First, i try Windows Media Player 9 to Burn my mp3's to Audio But it doesen't really work. It says ''Please insert a cd'' but actually i put a Blank cd already on it. So, I try to download a cd Burning software which is called ''Express Burn'' that it looks like ''NERO''. After i install, the program works but it canno't still BURN or copy what i like to burn and it says again ''Please insert a cd'' but i INSERT THE CD ALREADY. I try to double click CD-ROM in the COMPUTER but it says ''insert a disk'' also. My another Problem is That my DVD canno't work in this Laptop. I download WinDVD7 and this programs work but it says ''Please insert a cd'' but the DVD is inside already!!!! MY PAST BURNED CD or data Files work in this Laptop but my problem now is that my Blank CD's canno't BURN! and DVD canno't work. I will appreciate it when somebody can help me about my Problem Sorry if it is a BIG BIG Problem Thanks.

Do you have a CD-RW drive or JUST a CD-ROM drive? CD-ROM drives will NOT recognize blank CD-R or CD-RW disks. You need a CD-RW drive to be able to burn CD's. Seeing as how this is a laptop you're using, you'll need to get an external CD-RW drive or burn the CD's on a different machine. Faris,

You're welcome. Yes, you can download software for burning but you need a PHYSICAL CD-RW drive to be able to burn files. You will need a CD-RW drive to be able to burn files, you only have a CD-ROM drive. My Windows 98 tower has both a CD-ROM and a CD-RW drive and only the CD-RW will burn CD's. I think you can get an external CD-RW drive that will plug into your laptop computer's USB port in the back, it's that port that has a little trident symbol next to it, those are the USB ports, they're rectangular in form. Then you should be able to burn CD's. You can probably get one from Radioshack or somewhere like that. Just ask for an external CD-RW drive. I recommend NERO burning ROM as the burning software of choice. http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero I recommend version 5.0.0.3 for a system like windows ME as it's easy to use and understand, just be sure you aren't doing anything else when you burn to a CD, I've had problems when doing things during a burn. You have to buy a CDRW drive. It's a piece of HARDWARE. It cannot be downloaded or fixed up any other way. Go to the store!

Yes, as GX1 man said, you have to buy it from a store, they carry them at wal mart but don't go for a cheap brand. If you must go to a computer store, DO NOT let them trick you into buying a new machine, just be strong with them and tell them you ONLY NEED A CD-RW drive. I almost never shop at computer stores unless I have to because those people are tricky for people sometimes. Faris,
