I have several question concerning this, hope some one can make it easier, I am suppose to download this bios flash utility, which I did, then format a bootable floppy disk (I did) insert a blank disk into A,double click on my computer & copy System files only.....? cant do it no option 1.do you have any idea how to do this 2. I am suppose to locate a R4_10003U.EXE, which I guess is the old and move it to a empty or temp. directory well When I search that a pace comes up with 156 items on it and I don't see this #, is it in a folder under a diff name. Help, If I can locate this file and move it and make a bootable floppy & also copy exe file I down loaded on to the same floppy, when I get this does a A:\ come up and if it does What do I put after that? Why is this so difficult, I have been trying to do this since late last night. Sue

Sue... please give us a link to where you got those instructions so we can take a look. Or if it is a readme.txt file that you are getting the instructions from, please post that.
For now... To make a flash bootdisk you will have to download one. ME does not give you a good way to just copy over the 3 boot files to a flash floppy disk anymore.
You can get one from this link:
The fifth link down in the list is labeled:
DrDOS 7.X Disk For Bios Flashing Basic-No Drivers
Click on that link.
It will bring up a download box.
Save it to your desktop. When the downloading is finished...
Put a new floppy that is freshly formatted into the floppy drive.
Doubleclick on drdflash.exe that is on your desktop(you just downloaded it).Follow the instructions to extract the files to the floppy.
This will give you a flash boot floppy.
For the rest of the instructions, we will need to see them before we advise you any further. Help us out:)

I got it off the HP.com for a Pavilion 7270,one problem is it is 1997 R1_1007U.exe & the operating system at that time was 1995 Windows These are the instructions: R1_1007U.exe is a Bios Flash Utility containg the latest Bios for Pavilion Model 7270,R1_1007U.exe is a self extracting exe file which expands all files necessary to create a Bios Flash disk floppy. Installation Process: 1. After downloading, use windows explorer to locate R4_1003U.exe and move it to an empty or temp directory. 2. Format a bootable floppy diskette a. insert a blank floppy diskette into drive A and double click on my computer, b. right mouse click on the A: drive, choose Format, and select Copy System Files only. 3. From Within the directory you downloaded the file to, double-click on the EXE file to expand the files. You will be prompted to with doalog box requesting a destination directory. Use the A:\ default to expand files to the floppy you just formatted. 4. When you are ready to perform the upgrade, boot the system from the flppy disk created in step 2 and follow the instructions. After upgrading the bios, you are prompted to reboot the computer, the patch installation process automatically clears nonvolatile Ram and sets Bios Parameters to their default settings. I downloaded the A:\ drdflash.exe, pretty sure I under stand except when I search for the R4_1003U.EXE, a file comes up that says Data and when I open it its computer symbles? Sue I will be looking for the link to post.

Sorry newgrl, the url is http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/software/rl_1007u.exe.html
Sue

Weird. I can't get to that link, but I found it anyway.
Sue:
Go back to the link.
Redownload r1_1007u.exe.
Put it on your desktop. When the download is finished...
Close everything and put the floppy you made earlier with my instructions(DRDOS 7.X) into the drive.
Double click on r1_1007u.exe on your desktop. It will pop up with a message that says:
BIOS UPDATE 1.00.07DC0L - U.S.AThis patch provides the files required to create a BIOS upgrade disk for your HP Pavillion models 7270, 7275Z, 7280P, 7285, or 7295V. To create the update disk, insert.....
yada..yada...yada.
Click OK.
A winZip self-extractor box will pop up with:
A:\ as the path.
Click Unzip.
You will get a message that says 10files unzipped successfully.
Click ok and close the extractor.Leave the floppy disk in and reboot your computer(Start>>shutdown>>restart).
I am under the impression that the floppy will boot up and it will do will run automatically.

After I extracted the file R1_1007U.exe into it's own file, I took a look at what is in there. Here are the files:
1007dc0l.bi1
1007cd0l.boi
ask.exe
autoexec.bat
beep.com
biosup.exe
clrescd.exe
dc0l.cms
mosbak.exe
readme.txtThere isn't an R4_1003.exe file to extract. I believe that this is a missprint in the readme.txt and what they meant was r1_1007u.exe. Unfortunately, that makes the instructions confusing, but I believe they just used the intructions from another BIOS flash for this one and didn't change the name of the file.
I took a look at the autoexec.bat file in that program. It never points to R4_1003U.exe. It only points to the files contained within r1_1007u.exe.
Really... just follow the instructions I've given you and the onscreen instructions and you will be fine.
If you at all feel uncomforable, call HP and have them walk you through the process... or ask what they meant by R4_1003U.exe in the intructions.... but really, I think it's a misprint. The only thing that references that file is the readme.txt.

I do not feel uncomfortable using any suggestions that you make, I feel you are the super teck. I did what you said and it was scarey, but it worked, said every thing was updated, I went into the bios and it changed the version like it was suppose to, infact the only reason I went into the bios to check is because I went to System Information and it did not change that # still says the one before I did this, but in the bios when I hit the F1, it states it correctly, so ?? guess windows is in error too. I wish they would not have gave me that misprint # I looked all night for it, was afraid I would have 2 bios's and crash computer. Thanks, you should get paid for this. Sue
