I have a problem with my modem port settings. When I try to go online, aol 7.0 cannot initialize the modem. I found out that that the port is in use or busy. I tried to look in the BIOS settings and I just get lost. Can the BIOS change my Com port settings? How can I restore to the original settings?

I had a similar problem earlier with a 98 machine and I found a registry entry that had a FORCE COM1 to COM 4 set to "TRUE". I changed it to false and had no more problems. Do a search in your registery for your modem name (Mine was under US Robotics) or for COM1, and see if you see the same thing. Make sure that you back up your registery before spelunking in there.
