OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: CUP? 56MB RAM
Comment:

My parents are running a low-performance Windows ME computer, with 56MB RAM (I'm not sure of the processor speed).

They have a dial-up internet connection.

Can anyone advise which would be the best Internet Browser for them to use? Presently they use IE6 which is very slow and I fear leaves them virus-prone.

I looked at Firefox, but unfortunately it requires 64MB RAM.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

56mb is not much. sounds like one stick of 32 & one 24. download a program called everest to learn more about the machine, then others may be able to advise you on some easy and cheap upgrades. what kind of modem are you using? may want to think about an external dail-up modems, they work best with slower processors.

Better stick with IE because of u'r low memory. Even if u try for others, they create more problems than solutions.

try visiting my home page to try speeding up u'r pc a little bit.

good luck

Pick one

Opera 6 is pretty peppy

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

If you want the absolute leanest, most secure browser there is, try the "Off By One" browser.
You can get it at www.offbyone.com.
