hello its time to back up your hard drive. might start getting worse real quick. you can do a thourgh scan disk and have it fix errors. for a temp mesure.start looking for a new hard drive.you may get months out of this one but the more bad sectors you get the more strange problems youll enconter. have a nice day

When you do scandisk,DON'T let Windows fix errors automatically,make sure the "automatically fix errors' box is unchecked.Otherwise,you won't have much of a clue what's caused/causing them. Doesn't always mean you'll know anyway,but at least you stand a much better chance.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

try to mirror your datas from the hdd and run low-level-format. if the bad sectors are produced by software problems (u need cache package for W98 SE + ME) wrong data transfer caused by crappy controler you can fix it
if u still have any probs it might be scratches on the surface (if head try to get information on that "bad" area you can hear the scratchy sound. if the head touched the surface u won´t be able to repair them
