Hi it appears my system does not accept 256mb sdram pc133 sticks. I have a Gigabyte71xe4 motherboard using WINME
Version 4.90.3000 with 256mb ram (2x128mb sticks pc133)

Now i wanted to add another 256mb ram and seeing as i only have 1 slot left for memory i thought putting in 1 stick of 256mb ram would be no problem but my system does not register the new 256mb at all. I have tried booting just with it and with the other ram as well but my system doesnt boot.

Its kinda weird because i bought the ram from the same place my brother bought a 256mb stick of ram and that ram didnt work in his machine (well he tried a 256mb stick of ram and his computer would only register 128mb on it) I tried his ram in my computer and the same thing happened (i.e. my computer only registered half of the stick i.e. 128mb of a 256mb stick)

Is this just a case of bad ram? or does my system not accept sticks of more than 128mb ram? My system is not that old, and im pretty sure it takes pc133 ram (considering im using 2 x 128mb pc133 sticks at the moment)

(i should add that i bought 1 of the 128mb sticks from this computer shop and it has worked fine)

anyway hope someone can help
thanks
CJ

Help :((

ok i took the 256mb ram back to the shop and discovered other ppl had problem with this ram as well. so i bought a 512mb pc133 ram stick.

Tried it in my comp on its own = computer cannot complete bootup

tried it with my other memory and my computer registers half of the memory ie 256mb (so a total of 512mb including my other 256mb memory) but Windows refuses to load...indeed i get a message which says something wrong with system files so backing up to previous version!!! then restarts. but this is a loop cos it keep going through the same process and windows never loads !! :(

Anyway i finally get tired of this and remove the new 512mb stick of ram. I loadup windows with my old ram and my computer loads in 640x16 mode etc etc i dunno what is going on so i use a WINME system restore to restore my computer to a time when all this crap didnt happen :| It must be easier than this to upgrade memory surely :(
