Comment:

When booting my Windows ME system and after logging in, a dialog window appears that is titled "Long Filename Backup" with the error message "Bad command line format".

Does anyone know what this means or how it can be tracked and how to eliminate it?

Could be something to do with long file names and PKZIP utility.
Have you been using PKZIP lately ?
Run MSCONFIG and look in Startup tab and see if there is anything weird in there.

Did you upgrade from Windows 95?

If you did... did you have this utility installed in Windows 95?:

Long-Filename Backup Tool

If you did... uninstall it. It's not for use with ME.

I've been fighting this same error. Were you ever able to discover the cause?

My customer had this same error and we were able to fix it. Hopefully this will help you.

His problem was caused by a program called issue.exe located in c:\windows\command.

This program was running at start-up via HKEY_Local_Machine\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I have done a Google, Dogpile and Microsoft.com search for this file and have come up with nothing. This kind of worries me but I'll keep looking and see what I can come up with.

Hope this helps.
