I have formatted my hard drive once before, to go back to 98SE from ME.
But the problem was that i am using a COMPAQ PRESARIO LAPTOP and to get the Driver ETC for the Mouse-Pad, and the Screen to work ok i couldn't find them manually on the RESTORE DISCS that came with the PC, so i used the RESTORE DISCS as they reload all Drivers ETC, BUT thats when it LOADED ME BACK OVER the 98SE i tried loading previously.
SO i was back to square 1 again.
Any help/instructions would be appreciated...
Corey........

The compaq restore disk contains some compressed files. Search google for something that will extract them. Dig thru the many folders for the drivers & software you want.
Format/install 98.
Some of the ME drivers might not work with 98. The two operating systems are similar and you might get lucky.

Hi Cory.
Only 2 days ago I did similar to what you did but I went from a bootable Win98 CD on my laptop to a complete reformat and installation of Win98SE using the Windows Boot-disk to install.I had a lot of trouble with my drivers also, the display would only default to 640 X 480, my internal modem would not work and some of the functions relating to laptops did not work.
This is how I overcome the problem which may help you .
Boot-up to the program that you now have loaded. When windows is up and running THEN insert the WinME CD. It should start up but hopefully not load.
It should show you the contents of that CD with all drivers and other components grouped together in their respective folders.
From here you should be able to access what you want by opening the folders and installing.
I hope this helped you. It worked like a charm for me, but here I say again, I went from Win98 the Win98SE.
Regards
