B drive?

Why is the B drive never used now that the large floppies are no longer used. Could I name my zip drive B? It is the next one up from the A drive...Is there a major problem that could be caused by renaming the zip/floppy B instead of D?

I don't think it is available, but why do you want to use B anyway? Have you already used F thru Z?

No, Lol...but I am adding a second hard drive and d e and f are covered. The new hard drive will be partitioned...I am just fond of certain orders...but I don't know if there would be a conflict of some kind...So I hoped to avoid one with the expertise of the people here.

IMHO ,I think there will be a drive conflct if you manuaally assigned B as zip drive letter because the computer will think that the drive with B is a another floppy drive and not a zip drive.Hope i'm correct to this...upon connecting your zip drive and when windows recognized it, win will automatically assigned drive letters to it but of course you can also manually change it to other letter not used by other drives.

unless your zip drive connects to a floppy cable, "B" will not be an available drive letter. your drive is connected to either the Primary or Secondary channel which, by default, can only be assigned letters C-Z.

B is a reserved drive designation because of DOS. DOS allows you to copy a floppy to a floppy on a single drive without first moving the data to the C: drive.

I found a forum on this also: http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/47375.html So, I am resigned to the fact that the cd rom cd burner and zip drive will all come after c:(the first and old drive for now) and d: and e: the second hd with the 2 partitions... I guess now I have this correct?
