Is there any way to permently turn off, disable or uninstall Automatic updates in control panel? I keep it set to manual but quite often it reverts back to automatically download updates.

No biggie but its getting to be a real pain.

Back up first,then try renaming these files;

> WUAUBOOT.exe
> WUAUCLT.exe
> WUAURES.dll

Thanks thekid- ill try that if wawadaves answer doesnt work. Dave, I cant find auto update in msconfig- where should I be looking for it?

I is in your Control Panel next to add & remove programs and click to open or explor and then I think tools and turn it off from there.

sue, I have turned it off as you suggested but the darned thing keeps turning itself back on

the kid, I tried what you suggested in response #1 and so far all is well.
