@C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVDX.EXE/Startup
REM [Header]@ECHO OFF
REM [CD-ROM Drive]
REM [Miscellaneous]
REM [Display]
REM [Sound, MIDI, or Video Capture Card]
REM [Mouse]
rem - By Windows Setup - mscdex.exe/d:IDECD000/L:Mc:\PROGRAM~1\COMMON~1\NETWOR~1\VIRUS~1\401.XX\scan.exe c:\
@IF ERRORLEVEL 1 PAUSE

As I indicated here (you should only post once please),
http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/131764.html
It would "appear" that you have 2 antivirus programs installed and just recently installed a new one (in addition to Norton).
That one is scanning your entire disk on every boot. (at least that is what the command appears to be doing).Edit the autoexec.bat file and place a REM in front of the line
c:\PROGRAM~1\COMMON~1\NETWOR~1\VIRUS~1\401.XX\scan.exe c:\
Eg:
REM c:\PROGRAM~1\COMMON~1\NETWOR~1\VIRUS~1\401.XX\scan.exe c:\
Having 2 installed can be counter productive and cause conflicts.

The above is true, apart from the system variables such as setting paths and temp directories. Other than that, Windows Me bypasses anything in the Autoexec.bat and config.sys files.

Try newgrl's solution posted here before to give you a clean autoexec
Boot with an ME bootdisk.
From the a:\> prompt type each of these commands and press enter after each one:
c:
attrib -h -s autoexec.bat
ren autoexec.bat autoexec.bad
edit autoexec.bat
You are looking at a DOS editor application (like notepad for DOS).
Now... save the blank one. To do this:
Alt + F
S
Alt + F
X
Type:
attrib +s autoexec.bat
Now... pull out the bootdisk and reboot. It should use the blank autoexec.bat and you should be able to get up.
