Hi, everytime I get one of those automatic windows updates I have a problem. It installs fine, but when it goes to restart I get that black screen saying "windows cannot not upgrade 2% from 1%....windows cannot upgrade one or more system files, windows may fail to load properly" then I push enter, and it loads and everything seems fine. The only other problem I have is it seems to freeze a lot, when I'm not even running any programs or sometimes just one. I just thought this error was strange and was hoping someone could shed some light on it for me, or tell me what I could do to keep from getting this error everytime. I've ran scandisc and defrag and all that.

Thank you. But I have another question the intructions on that page say to reinstall the program or update, how is that possible? It's the auto update from microsoft, will it just redownload itself?

Oh now this is interesting. I searched for wininit.ini just like that site said and got no results "search complete. There are no results to display"

Thank you for the response but when would I restore it too? I've been having this problem for a while, making it pretty hard to pick a date before it started happening, and I've installed qite a few programs since then.

I'm sorry I don't know what NAV is. Is it Norton Anti-virus? if so, then no I am not. I'm using Panda Platinum 7.

none of those symptoms on that link seem to fit. It doesn't hang during the setup, just gives the error on restart. Thank you for trying.

Did you have system restore disabled...or inadvertantly delete your _Restore folder?

I'd suggest a Google Web and Groups search. There's plenty of reading.

No The Kid, I did not disable it, and my restore folder is fine. This is just very strange to me.

Just a small recommendation. Turn OFF automatic updating. Plenty of people have been caught out with it installing crappy updates that aren't needed for their systems.
Media Player 9 Beta was one that got a fair bit of flak a few months back. 811493 had to be pulled and reworked because it caused severe slowdown in a lot of systems. Update manually and choose what you want rather than just taking everything that's dished out.
