first of all your Cpu is not fast enough,do you have Me upgraded from 98SE?What anti-virus loaded when you bootup?any other utilities ?Check device manager for any conflicts of hardware. Also try this,

right click on your desktop, >>new>>shortcut..in the command line enter exactly as follows,
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE*shell32,SHExitwindowsEx*1

*=leave a space, just give it name SHUTDOWN.
now you should have a new shortcut on desktop, click it and see if it shutsdown properly good luck

This auto shutdown exists only in newer computers. You will also notice that you cant just hit the off button to shut the computer off, you must now hold it in for several seconds. Redpepper is telling you how to create a desktop icon ( can be programmed into a multimedia key on your keyboard) that will allow you to shut down your computer. I was going to give you the same advice as redpepper till i read you reply. I dont know of a way to have the older tower shutoff, i think some of its hardware(the on/off button). So i think the answer to your question is "no you cant" i could be wrong but i doubt it:)

The auto-shutdown you seem to want , will only be available if your tower has an ATX power supply. ATX power supplies are mainly in the newer towers, and the motherboard also has to have the ATX connector

Gee after reading the other post I may be wrong, but you could try to go to the control panel to power management on my pc it will let you set a time when the pc will shutdown. Let me know if this works for you?
