My 233 Pent 2 with ME turns itself on when the phone rings. I have checked Bios settings and disabled Auto power on settings for my external modem. How do I stop my PC from turning on when the phone rings, I have no fax programs installed.

Is there a wake on your modem? There might be some setting on your modem (software) that you might be able to change that.

In my BIOS, this setting is called Wake-on-Lan. Is this what you disabled? Are you running FAX software? It might have re-set your BIOS to enable Wake-on-LAN.

There is a wake on lan, but there is also a wake if there's activity on the modem/phoneline. Try to disable this. If that doesn't work, try disabling the powermanagement in the bios...
