As follows: START RUN "dxdiag" (TAB) SOUND (UNDER) DIRECTX FEATURES HARDWARE SOUND ACCELERATION LEVEL; Set this to Basic, 2nd in form the left. I was having trouble with my soundcard (which is fairly old) and that worked? Worth a try?
