I've just downloaded AOL 9.0. It installed just fine, but I've hit a serious snag while trying to set up the local access numbers.

I live in an area where one must dial their area code even for local calls. Seven-digit numbers get you nowhere. AOL 8.0 gave you a chance to specify that the area code be used when dialing any number.

AOL 9.0 does not. I can't even get 9.0 to dial in for a list of local access numbers. At no time during any part of the setup process does it give you the chance to tell it to dial the area code. Yet without that ingredient, I'm dead in the water.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Do you know how to get around it? What exactly am I missing? I've already tried Expert Setup. It yields nothing. How do I get AOL 9.0 to dial a 10-digit number (area code plus number)?

Thank you for your help.

Arthur

Hi Arthur. Try adding the area code numbers in front of your local number...can you fit it all in the same place.

zaqx,

Therein lies the problem. AOL 9.0 dials a number based on the area code I provide, but I have no way of customizing that number. I don't even know what the number is. AOL just dials it, without the area code. There's no option for including the area code, nor any input field for typing it.

And this is before any local access numbers are even gathered.

That's what I'm facing.

Arthur

If you are paying for AOL access, use their support and call them. They are normally very helpful.

Unfortunately I'm at work right now and I don't have AOL in front of me. But, if you live in the Chicago area (like I do), then I know exactly what you're talking about.

From the AOL sign on screen you should be able to click on a sign on options button. From here you can view your access numbers. when viewing the different numbers there should be an edit button where you can click on it and then manually enter in your area code. Sorry if these directions aren't 100% accurate, but if you're unable to figure it out, try sending me an Email and I can check it out and Email you back (with better directions) when I get home.

I have Windows ME and can't download 9.0, however my laptop has XP and it downloaded fine. I think there is a glitch in ME and it is not compatable with 9.0?
