I have a SSCI Orb drive that I obtained a USB adaptor cable for(I don't have a SSCI port on my pc-was from an old MAC i had-**castlewood says I can use on either system). I have been able to load the drivers etc and the drive seems to load up. I put in disk(these are 2.2G disks) and try to access it or move a file to it and it freezes or says "access denied write protected disk". How do you write protect a factory fresh disk?? I have tried reformating, erasing etc to no avail. even using the format function they provide... says it cant set the allocation files. I did find out that the drive is formated originally in FAT 16. now I can't even see the drive when I try to do an FDISK to clear it off and set up a FAT 32 on it to match the ME I'm using. any good ideas?? I recently upgraded my harddrive and have to reinstall my OS and am going to do clean install of ME(previos had done an upgrade to ME over 98 ver-2. Maybe that will help to start with?? any help would be good! Thanks :)

Hi,

I am not sure but I get the feeling you left out some details like where can't you see your disk in FDISK ? it could be that the partition is not set to active yet. Remenber the BIOS reads the SCSI drive first.

Amir

Hi Rich.
I own an ORB Parallel port connection 'stand-alone' that I used to use with my laptop before I got this PC. I had a lot of problems, same as you and more.

I wrote to their 'help' site and got a fairly good response. Maybe you may wish to give them a go also. The email address is:

help@castlewood.com

The guy there that helped was called "Matthew".

I also had a very complicated problem (can't remember what), which they had trouble helping with so they passed me onto a Chinese female techy.

It's your lucky day (hopefully) because I found her details....be warned she is slow to reply, but the info is good.

Name: Chii-jia Lee
(Applications Engineer, Castlewood Systems Inc.)
Email: clee@Castlewood.com (or) Castlewood with a capital "C", can't read my own writing

Hope she is still there and can help you. Let me know how you go.

Best of luck
Regards

sorry late getting back, left on VACA !! i have tried their support emails and got some ideas to get the Orb loaded on to the system and it took many trys to get it but it finally went! As far as formating the disk;s(i had an old Mac version they said I could reformat) I have tried using the Fdisk to partition the drive and it only shows the main hard drive as available. I just did a system upgrade on my Pc and havent had a chance to retry much as it took a bunch of time to get system back in working order!! so if any other ideas pop up let me know. I will probably try the lady listed real soon! thanks !!
