any voice messenger for me?

Original Message

Subject: any voice messenger for me?
OS: ME
CPU/Ram: ?\64MBe
Model/Manufacturer: HP Pavillion
Comment:
I installed yahoo messenger and setup the mic and webcam. I got it to function but the voices are garbled and can only hear some of the words. The webcam comes in but the video freezes and acts like one snapshot after another. I checked the system requirements which are as follows.----- * Windows 2000/XP/Vista
* Pentium class processor of at least 1 GHz
* Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or later)
* At least 256 MB RAM
* A microphone, sound card, and speakers
* A non-proxy connection to the Internet

(A broadband connection is recommended, but not essential)---- I suppose I can't use Yahoo Messeger but is there another I can use like maybe MSM messenger or shall I just forget it? Thank you.

rhodeye, sounds like a memory issue to me. Suspect all's well otherwise. Insufficient memory triggers buffering (jerkiness, etc.) and memory management isn't one of ME's strong suits in the first place. More memory or perhaps another memory manager?

What is a memory manager and can I download one to my Pavillion computer?

Go to http://www.crucial.com and use the Memory Configurator to find what compatable memory sticks you need, this is hardware!

Installing software for W2K/XP is fruitless as it is a differnet family of Windows Operating Systems.

It is possible by using Google to find older versions of AIM & Yaho Messenger, whilst Windows Millenium Edition already has Windows Messenger as an Optional Component.

You're running WinME, ?CPU? & 64MB RAM. You don't see a problem with that?

Try following Bakers suggestion & see if there's an older IM program that will work with your specs:

rhodeye, I currently run XP (MUCH better than ME IMHO), but I recall the 'magic words' I used with ME before I figured it out.
STRONGLY recommend you get/use 'Trev's tweaks ...' (list available) @:
http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtw...
really helped me and made ME a sweet OS.

I did alot of those tweaks which taught me some nice things I didn't know before but I doubt if it helped with the voice and webcam on Yahoo messenger. I have to wait till I can try it. My computer doesn't go ant faster but It's quick enough I think for it's age. Anyway here is something interesting you might not know about. It gave me a complete profile (all the components and their specs)of my computer. Try it and see if it gives you a true profile for your computer. I'm not sure if its correct for mine because my nephew repaire this computer long ago and replaced the original Pavilion vertical casing with a horizontal Vectra caseing which still has the serial and product numbers of the Vectra on the back of the caseing. I suppose though it still is the Pavilion mother board because that is what the profile says. If it is the Vectra wouldn't belarc have sent me the Vectra's specs. Thanks
