Norton has an anti-virus/security etc. software package, 4 applications. Does anyone else offer such a package, and do you have any opinions about which ine is best?? Thanks d

what apps do you need? only AV? The Norotn Utilities suite is a pretty good one but, you need to determine what you actual needs are. If you jsut want AV, go with Norton Corporate AV or Trend Micro.

I use Norton Systemworks on many systems but it doesn't operate particularly well with ME if you just let it do it's own thing. You need to use it manually rather than let it schedule tasks or it will start interfering with all sorts of other programs and games when they are running. And, don't let System Doctor run constantly...causes many problems and hogs resources. But all that said, if you use Norton WinDoctor, Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Speed Disk in that order they keep a very neat and tidy system going. Norton Cleansweep is good for moving programs to another drive if you have it installed before the programs are installed. Don't let Norton "automatically" clean out your registry etc. because you take your life in your hands if you do. Symantec's anti-virus definitions, information and tools are very good, up to date and work effectively. I have also used Dr Solomon's and McAfee but never found them as effective or as easy to use.

i agree with everything trev said about norton utilities. if used properly they're great. i use quick heal anti virus be cause i find the other more popular ones tend to slow the computer down to some degree. with quick heal i can set it up to just scan all my internet activityand let me do a manual scan when i'm off the net. it's fast and has weekly updates. and i've never had a virus in the three years i've been using it.

I was particularly thinking of AV, firewall and privacy apps.

I use nav2002 and zonealarm have had almost all versions of nav and no viruses since I 1st installed it. have tried other av software and they don't compare with the scanning engine in nav. I use norton utilities from the cd only, lets you use disk dr. and win dr. and unerase, without installing it. use to have it installed but it does more then I need or want.

Getting an all in one package isnt neccesarily the best way to go. Nortons firewall was created by another company in which symantec bought out so they could add it to there "package". Nortons antivirus is one of the best AV solutions available. Ive used it for years until recently. Kind of getting tired of buying a new version every year to work with the latest operating system. Nothing we can do about this i guess. I just purchased pandasoftwares titanium "install and forget about it" antivirus software. It runs quietly in the corner and the system scans are much faster than norton. With windows me it runs great. With XP it causes windows to open slowly but the program itself function just as quickly. For a firewall Zonealarm is definately a front runner and at its low low price of absolutely free you cant go wrong. If your not interested in the other symantec utilities i would suggest zonealarm and nortons AV. If you are interested i say why not. Symantecs products usually do what they are supposed to. I had a bad experience with system works and wont try it again. I cant exactly completely blame it for my problems because it could have been one of my many other windows 98se problems at the time.
