is there a way to test if my antivirus is runing correctly and if it not how can i correct this. my antivirus seems to be working correctly but i did an online scan and i found a virus also when i try to download updated it says norton antivirus security update failed because it tryto overwirtie a file that was in use what is this mean and how can i correct this is my antivirus runing correctly.????

get norton antivirus(best antivirus)and you can test your pc at symantec.com

i for some reason i cant use the website to test it something to do with activex.??

Try adding it to your "trusted sites" zone.If that doesn't help,post back with your settings for tools/internet options/security/internet/custom level...might need some adjustments or simply setting them to default might do it.

I too got a virus a couple of times with nortons, believe me its not worth paying for the free AVG does just as good

Sue,even the best AV will miss something.
There is a site (German I think,if someone can help) that has tests for all common programs over a period of some years and Norton did come first with something 70-80%
success !
AVG is good.

i got it working but only on sertain sites i still cant get it to work on symantec.
