hi all, having a little problem with Macaffe version 6 installed by other so I don't know what was, is, or wasn't installed. End result is she said when installation completed it prompted her to re-boot and she did, problem is it freezes on the Win 98 splash screen. (yes I know this is a Me forum, but a lot of problems solved here.) and I use Me. I can't find an uninstall anywhere, and can't remove it from add /remove programs. Any help appreciated.

The manual removal of McAfee Utilities is a difficult process. This procedure should be done only if you feel confident editing and navigating within the Registry of the computer and in other system files. You may prefer to have technical support assistance as you continue.Attempt an Automatic Uninstall
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Highlight Settings then click on Control Panel. The Control Panel will then appear.
3. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box will then appear.
4. Locate McAfee Utilities on the list of installed programs and single click on it so it is highlighted.
5. Click the Add/Remove button.
NOTE: If at any time you are prompted to remove shared files, answer Yes To All.
6. Windows will then attempt to remove McAfee Utilities from your computer. If the operation is successful you will need to restart your computer. If McAfee Utilities is successfully uninstalled you do not need to complete the remaining steps in this document. If you receive error messages or find that McAfee Utilities was not completely removed then follow the steps below to manually remove the program.Run MSIEXEC to Attempt a Forced Uninstall
Click on the Start button.
Highlight Programs then click on MS-DOS Prompt. A black window will then appear on the screen with a blinking cursor.
Type the following commands into the keyboard:
CD C:\Windows\SYSTEM
MsiExec.exe /I{45114EC7-ECCD-11D4-B74C-004005DE47B1}
Windows will then attempt to uninstall McAfee Utilities automatically. If the uninstall is successful your computer will be rebooted.
IMPORTANT: Before beginning to remove McAfee Utilities manually from your computer be sure to backup the Registry. This will safeguard your Windows installation. You can recover your Windows configuration by restoring the backup if something goes wrong.The instructions in this document will guide you through deleting specific items from your computer. If you are instructed to delete an item that you cannot find, skip that step and continue with the next step. Some steps may not be applicable to your installation of McAfee Utilities.
Backup the Registry
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Highlight Run, then click on Run.
3. Type in REGEDIT then click the OK button. The Registry Editor will then appear.
4. Click on the Registry pull-down menu then click on Export Registry File.
5. The Export Registry File dialog box will then appear. The top of this dialog box contains an option entitled Save In. Make sure 'Desktop' is selected for the Save In option. If it is not, click
the pull-down arrow and select 'Desktop' from the menu.
6. In the File Name field type 'Backup' (without the quotation marks).
7. In the Export Range group box make sure 'All' is selected.
8. Click on the Save button.NOTE: If you need to restore the Registry you can double-click on the 'backup' file you created and it will be restored. However, once you have finished these instructions and are certain everything is working properly it is important to delete the 'backup' file you created. Do this by right clicking on the Backup file on the desktop then left clicking on Delete from the pop-up menu that appears. This will ensure that the old registry is not accidentally restored once this process is complete.
Delete the Registry Keys
NOTE: The following steps may be more easily followed if you close and reopen the Registry Editor between each step. To close the Registry Editor click the X in the top right corner of the Registry Editor window. To reopen the Registry Editor follow steps 1 - 3 in the 'Backup the Registry' section above.
NOTE: If any these don't exist, just skip to the next step.
Deleting the First Aid folder:
1. Click on the + next to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
2. Click on the + next to the SOFTWARE folder.
3. Click on the + next to the McAfee folder.
4. Single click on First Aid folder so it is highlighted.
5. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
6. Click on the - next to the McAfee folderDeleting McAfee Utilities desktop Icons:
7. Click on the + next to the Microsoft folder.
8. Click on the + next to the Windows folder.
9. Click on the + next to the CurrentVersion folder.
10. Click on the + next to the Explorer folder.
11. Click on the + next to the Desktop folder.
12. Click on the + next to the Namespace folder.
13. Single click on {be504840-6d2e-11d0-a40f-10005a641926} so it is highlighted.
14. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
15. Single click on {dd7450c0-3e14-11d0-b599-10005a11ba95} so it is highlighted.
16. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
17. Single click on { f59f3760-6fae-11d1-b87d-444553540000} so it is highlighted.
18. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
19. Click on the - next to the Desktop folder.
20. Click on the - next to the Explorer folder.Deleting the McAfee Guardian entry:

22. On the right, single click on McAfee Guardian so it is highlighted.
23. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.Delete the McAfee Image and the McAfee TaskMaster entries:
24. Single click on the RunServices folder.
25. On the right, single click on McAfee Image so it is highlighted.
26. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
27. On the right, single click on McAfee TaskMaster so it is highlighted.

29. Click on the + next to the Uninstall folder.
30. Single click on {45114EC7-ECCD-11D4-B74C-004005DE47B1} so it is highlighted.
31. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
32. Single click on McAfee Utilities so it is highlighted.
33. Scroll up to the top of the window.
34. Click on the - next to the SOFTWARE folder.Delete the fbwin95, CmApiEng, CyberKrn and Dtune entries:
35. Click on the + next to the System folder.
36. Click on the + next to the Services folder.
37. Click on the + next to the VxD folder.
38. Single click on fbwin95 so it is highlighted.
39. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
40. Single click on CmApiEng so it is highlighted.
41. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
42. Single click on CyberKrn so it is highlighted.
43. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
44. Single click on Dtune so it is highlighted.
45. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.Removing the McAfee Utilities installer codes:
46. On the left side of the registry editor screen, single-click on My Computer (located at the very top) so it is highlighted.
47. Click on the Edit pull-down menu then click on Find. The Find dialog box will then appear.
48. Type a keyword from the list below into the Find What field.
49. Click the Find Next button
50. The computer will then search the registry. The search will stop each time a file is found related to the keyword and the file will be highlighted. Verify that it is McAfee related, and
press delete on the keyboard, then press Enter to confirm the deletion, then press the F3 key on the keyboard, which will continue the search. Delete all occurrences until you get a
'Finished Searching through the Registry' message and click OK.
51. Scroll back to the top of the registry editor and highlight My Computer. (This is necessary whenever starting a new search because the search, only searches from the top down and will
begin with whichever file is highlighted.)
52. Repeat Steps 49-54 searching for each of the following key words. (Type the words exactly as they appear below and verify that each file is related to McAfee before deleting it.)
7CE41154DCCE4D117BC4000450ED741B (This is the Utilities Key Value and is case sensitive - all caps, the 0s are zeros)
NOTE: If your computer is running on a network with a Microsoft Exchange Server, search for [zip mail for exchange} WITHOUT THE BRACKETS.
53. When the file is found, verify that the file is named zip mail for exchange, then press the delete key on the keyboard, followed by pressing the Enter key to confirm the deletion.Close out of the Registry Editor (click on the 'X' in the upper right hand corner).
Delete the Shortcuts
NOTE: If any these don't exist, just skip to the next step.
1. Right click on the McAfee Utilities shortcut on the desktop. A pop-up menu will appear. Left click on Delete to remove this shortcut.
2. Click on the Start button.
3. Highlight Settings.
4. Click on Taskbar & Start Menu. The Taskbar Properties dialog box will then appear.
5. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab.
6. Click on the Remove button.
7. Double click on the McAfee Office folder.
8. Locate the McAfee Utilities folder and single-click on it so it is highlighted.
9. Press the Remove button to remove this folder.
10. Locate the folder named Startup and click on the plus sign (+) next to it to open it.
11. Locate EZStart in the Startup folder. Highlight it and press the Remove button.
12. Locate Trashgrd (Trashguard) in the Startup folder. Highlight it and press the Remove button.
13. Locate McAfee WinGuage in the Startup folder. Highlight it and press the Remove button.
14. Press the Close button followed by the OK button.
15. Restart the computer.Remove the Files
1. Double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Double click on the C: drive.
3. Double click on the Program Files folder.
4. Double click on the McAfee Office folder.
5. Single click on the McAfee Utilities folder so it is highlighted.
6. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this folder. Answer yes to any prompts about deleting files.
7. Close down all open windows until you are back on the desktop.McAfee Utilities has now been removed from your computer.

Thanks Dave, found this article on McAfee's site looks like the manual removal because for some unknown reason there are only four programs left in the add/remove programs box. Where did they go? I don't know. running "housecall" but no virus, where did it all go. Go to start, programs and everything is there but not in add remove. Yes I did restore the registry to an earlier date. Any other input appreciated.
