another sound question

i finally downloaded the correct driver(the one my copmuter says it needs) and installed it, but when i restarted my computer i still had no sound! and when i go to sounds and multimedia on control panel and i clock on the audio tab, it still says there are no playback devices, etc, and its all gray so i can't click on it to change it. do you know what the problem still is? thanks again....

Sue, is this a sound card, or your motherboard's integrated sound? If it is integrated, be sure to check in the bios that it is enabled.

I agree with capt but would add, even if you have onboard integrated sound device instead of sound card you would also need proper drivers, check device manager to see if there is any yellow marks or or anything like that in there, also if you have motherboard manual,if you have onboard sound it will probably tell you what drivers you need for sound, mine is realtek ac-97 or alc650 drivers, have a look you never know.
