Another cdrom drive has appeared

My mate rang me up and told me that having instaleed Nero burning siftware, when he goes to burn a cd, Nero wants o send it to "D" cdrom drive. He hasn`t got a "D" drive only a "Q" drive. When he looks in My computer, next to "A" and "C", there is his usual "Q" drive but now "D" has appeared. He has tried to delete "D" but the delete part is greyed out. Where has "D" come from and why can`t he delete it. Thanks
