Is there anything gained by installing more than 512mb RAM and then setting the vcache limits? I seem to be getting some serious memory leaks during long sessions of file sharing and, because I "ain't all that" with computers, I'm wondering if this might not be the solution to getting more time 'til needing a reboot. Thanks in advance...!

If anything, something will be lost if you install more than 512 Ram in WinME.It is a known issue and problem installing and/or asking ME to recognize it.
As far as your vcache, there's varying suggestions on the vcache settings, you'll need to play around with 'em to see which one works best for you.
Personally,I tried them all,and noticed no real difference.I ended up letting Windows handle it...but then again,I don't do any file sharing.

I guess I should have added that I'm now dual booting with W2K and want to have all the memory available when I'm in W2K mode- without WinME zapping out when I'm on that side of things.
Okay- I understand that there's no definitive, "this is it" way to set the vcache BUT- is there a Vcache for Dummies site anywhere out there?

With more than 512MBs installed, the definitive vcache setting is to keep it under 512!!
So a setting of MaxFileCache=500000 will suffice.
Under 512, vcache settings should not be required.

"I seem to be getting some serious memory leaks"
What exact problems are you experiencing?

wawawdave- Thanks for the pointers. One of the first things I did when I installed the new version of ME I'm running was to go through the steps in Run ME Well. That's a document I keep that I'll be forever indebted to Trev for. Thanks again Trev!
Whitphil- In long sessions of downloading on WinMX, I notice the mouse getting squirrelly, pages not wanting to change smoothly or quickly and, eventually, I lose the connection. While talking to users on WinMX itself, I've heard many, many times that I need to run the program on just about anything BUT WinME- the clear favorite being W2K

Are you currently AT 512MBs.

If so, try placing a lower limit on the cache. I have seen threads where the poster is adamant that they can not run with 512 and an unlimited vcache.

Try MaxFileCache=300000
in the [vcache] section of System.ini

You can also try to confirm some of this by running SYSMON.
