I just built a Athlon 800mhz computer. The abit ka7 motherboard came with 2 usb ports. I am using windows me. Here is the problem I can't get the usb to work. I researched this in microsoft's data base, and found that there is a fix for this under windows 98se, but none for windows me. Anyone know how to fix this little problem.

check your bios...some bios' have a USB enable/disable. also there should be an "assign irq" for USB ports. most systems with auto assign a usb peripheral if you plug a gamepad, camera,...after boot. reboot your pc and hit "del" (usually the key) enter your bios and look for the changes i listed.

I'm having the same problem and I also have AMD 800. Everything was fine in Win98SE, now with ME = no USB.

I've contacted VIA, Microsoft, AMD, and no results (yet). I tried everything that has been suggested in this thread (and more)... 4in1 driver from ViaTech didn't work, USB filter didn't work, BIOS is set correctly.

Any help? I'll repost IF AMD, VIA, or MS get back to me...

I have an Asus A7V board. I am using the 4.24a driver set and latest bios(1004c). No usb problems. I have a Intel Share Cam and Visioneer scanner hooked up. No problems.
Check you bios/cmos setup to make sure you have the usb enabled, as others have suggested.

I have the AMD Athlon. USB worked fine for my cannon scanner, digital camera but refused to allow a USB printer connection. I have 4 USB ports. BIOS settings are correct. Stumped 2 Gateway techs, a first and second level Epson tech and finally just went parallel on the printer. Problem unresolved.??

I have an Athlon 750, running WIn 98SE. I bought a portable Digital Audio Player recently (USB), which works fine on my Intel at work, but refuses to connect properly to my Athlon. The USB connection holds for around a minute, and then breaks - unplugging the cable from the PC and then placing it fixes the problem...for around 1 more minute.

The Microsoft patch for the AMD/Win 98SE problem made no difference.
