Advice on Replacing ME with XP

Can anyone offer up any advice on the best way to replace Windows ME with XP Home edition. I have the XP disks so should I remove ME in its entirety before I start?
even if your XP is the upgrade version, most of the advice on this suggests that you do a full install of XP with all of the implications that has. ensure that you have all of your data backed up onto either another hard drive partition or onto removable media such as CD. Al

speaking from experience... do the full install.. upgrades from microsoft suck... hence.. there will ALWAYS be problems if you do the upgrade.
easiest way is if you have a second drive.. copy your data to second drive.
