I would like to add 256 meg RAM to my machine. Can anyone recommend a guide for this procedure. My owners manual is a bit short on adequate info. I have never done this before. Any tips? troubleshooting? Links to good resources? Previous threads to look at that you know of?

Thx

Go here for some installation guides

Since you have a Gateway, I would strongly recommend that you also consider buying your ram from them. It is guaranteed to work in your computer and will be shipped to you free within two days by FEDEX.

go onto Gateway's support site. find the documentation and it'll tell you what's the Max RAM you could have(you can't have more than the Max RAM, it wouldn't read), and it should also say what type of RAM your computer came with.
Then go online to some online store, or go to your nearest computer store like: CompUSA, Microcenter, Fry's, BestBuy, or something of the sort, locate the correct RAM (like PC____) with the correct speed, and buy it.
