This is kind of long; but I need some advice. I want to know if it is safe to remove older copies of programs that have been updated to newer versions? I have a coupe of things in the add/remove programs box that I am not sure if it is safe to delete the older ones or not? Here goes:
Add/remove programs box:
scanner,adaptec direct cd,adaptec easy cd creator 4,adaptec udf reader,ad-aware 5.5,ad-aware 5.6,adobe acrobat 4.0,5.0, adobe acrobat 3.01,apollo printer,audiogalaxy satellite,backweb,callwave,catchup v1.3,conexant softK56 modem,creative recorder,HP internet center,Hp printer scanner/copier enhancer,Intel 810 chipset graphics driver,live reg.(symantec corp.),live update 1.6(symantec corp.), microsoft IEAK 6,microsoft IE 5 toolbar wallpaper,microsoft IE 6 & internet tools,microsoft money 2000,microsoft outlook express 6,microsoft web publishing wizard 1.6,microsoft word 2000,microsoft works 2000,morpheus,msn messenger service 3.6,musicmatch jukebox,my yahoo for hp, napster v2.0 beta 10.3, norton systemworks 2001,one-touch multimedia keyboard,photomax 2.0,printmaster gold 4.0,quicklink III,realplayer basic,rescue disk,shockwave,textbridge pro 8.0,3rd grade adv(child's game),trellix web,weatherbug,winzip,winzip self-extractor,yahoo companion toolbar,yahoo friends explorer bar,yahoo internet mail,yahoo messenger.

Ok! This is what I found in my add/remove programs box this am. I am just trying to see if I can remove the older versions of stuff. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

OMG how long did it take you to type that lot! lol Go ahead and remove the older versions and free up some disc space!!!!

Get rid of Napster & Audio Galaxy as well Keep Morpheus, far faster transfers, I mean How many File sharing progs does one need?

I assume you live in the States, if not get rid of Callwave too. I would suggest that you remove some of these from msconfig start up too, you might actually get some speed. Sorry, but saw that lot and almost hyperventilated. You might want to do a defrag when you have finished

Run scandisk and defrag when you're done uninstalling programs.

B/4 you unistall the adaptec software, I would check with Windows Media Player web site and make sure its OK to uninstall those programs . I know that the Media Player , depends on the adaptec software for some of its features !

Be careful!

I had AdAware 5.5 and updated to 5.6. In browsing the Add/Remove section, I saw where I could remove 5.5, so I did. Guess what! It removed 5.6.

Just make sure the software listed for removal actually exists before you attempt to remove it!

Even running a programs uninstall routine leaves stuff behind. This is usually innocuous but they also leave trails in the system registry which eventually bloats to the point of breaking. If you have Norton Utilities run Win Doctor to get rid of the reg entries. If not the free regclean.exe is you next best bet. Both will create an undo file and considerably reduce your registy's size. Do this AFTER above mentioned uninstall party (see previous posts to this thread).
