Hi everyone,my add /remove (ME) list appears empty and Microsoft Words will not work(on all users),this happened 4 days or so ago.I tried to run "scanreg /recover" and the 1st and 2nd time worked great (they came back). Then I uninstalled and reinstalled zone alarm and it seemed to disappear again. Now I've uninstalled zone alarm completely but the list remains empty.I also ran "scanreg /fix" to no avail and now if I try to run "scanreg /recover" it wont let me go back to the date I want ie: the dates have advanced forward past the date,is anyone able to help me,very much appreciated ... Zeek
PS: ,I've done a complete virus scan (Nortons corporate edition) ,the cleaner, spybot ,ad-aware,registry cleaner(trial) today.I've also done a disk scan and defragged, everything else works fine.

Did you reboot the system after restoring a working copy of the Registry, or do a SCANREGW and save a backup copy when it was working?
I so, then one of the later copies of the registry that is marked as "Started" in the Scanregw /restore list might be good, or one that you saved. Start with the oldest one who's date and time indicate it was saved while everything was working OK.
If you get it working, remember to run SCANREGW and then save a backup.
As you are having trouble, it might be a good idea to increase the number of backups that scanregw keeps. The default is five. Use NotePad to edit the file C:\Windows\SCANREG.INI and change the MaxBackupCopies= to 10. Do this first so you can try several of the currently saved backups.
If that does not work, you will have to consider using System Restore if it is working. However if you have lost all copies of a valid registry, then due to the corruption that you have with it, it may be time to erase the disk drive and start over with a clean install of the OS and reload all of your programs and data.

Hi Jack, yes the computer automatically rebooted after restoring, but now as I said earlier I cant get back to the date I want.Ihaven't done the "SCANREGW" thingy yet but have just had a we look about it and might try that, thanks Jack, -Zeek
PS:All my programmes and the system seem to be running fine I just have no add/remove programmes list.
Question Anyone:?
Does it really matter that I have no add/remove list?? apart from when I want to remove a programme,as I could use the programmes uninstall feature if it has one to remove it from my system.

You keep talking about scanregW /restore. Don't you mean scanreg /restore without the W?
I was always told that scanregW /restore only restores the Windows Registry.

Hi *ta, I think your talking to *jack...but I just realised that I meant "scanreg /restore" and NOT "scanreg /recover"in the "original message" (twice),sorry about that.To your query I'm unsure whether scanregW /restore only restores the Windows Registry, but it seems likely and I think that is where my problem is.

scanregw is the Windows program to be run within Windows, this will only create a fresh backup of the registry.
scanreg is the MS-DOS program to be run in Pure DOS, this will restore an old backup of the registry.

ME has "system restore" just like XP...Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools
