AC'97 Sound Card w/ Windows Me

Comment:
Have a new Dell Optiplex 900 mHz running Me. Sound Crad is the stock AC'97 card that came with the PC.
I replaced the 48x CD ROM drive with a Plextor 10/12/32 CD/RW drive. Playback in CD Player mode makes Frank Sinatra sound like the new lead for Alvin and the Chipmunks. Player plays back 11 secs. too fast for every elapsed minute (71 secs. elapse on the PC's CD Player).
Thought it was the CD R/W. It's not. I copied some .wav files onto a floppy from another PC that I know are fine and played them back from the floppy on the Dell.
Same result.
Device Mgr. says that the device is working properly and the best driver is installed.
Is there anything in the bios that needs changing or are there any swithces that need to be switched that I'm not seeing??

AC'97. Are you sure it isn't the on-board sound instead of a sound card?. Get the latest chip-set drivers from either Dell or Via. Check with Dell to see if the BIOS needs upgrading.

i'll go along with the drivers, but if it's a new machine the bios should not need upgrading.
