Interesting commentary by a Canadian Television Commentator-

A TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.

America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage
was given recently to a remarkable editorial
broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian
television commentator. What follows is the full text
of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the
Americans as the most generous and possibly the least
appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and
Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the
Americans who poured in billions of dollars and
forgave other billions in debts. None of these
countries is today paying even the interest on its
remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956,
it was the Americans who propped it up, and their
reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets
of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the
United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59
American communities were flattened by tornadoes.
Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars! into
discouraged countries. Now
newspapers in those countries are writing about the
decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that
is gloating over the erosion of the United States
dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country
in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo
Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?
If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the
International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting
a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese
technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German
technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find
men on the moon -! not once, but several times -
and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs
right in the store window for everybody to look at.
Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded.
They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless
they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American
dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through
age, it was the Americans
who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and
the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an
old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced
to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name
me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I
don't think there was outside
help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired
of hearing them get
kicked around. They will come out of this thing with
their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled
to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating
over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

Not to detract from sentiment in " A Canadian Tribute To America" but this was done 30 years ago. Still appropriate but you might wish to check out " Urban Legends And Folklore" The Nostradamas prophecy going around is another hoax.

As an American my heart aches for all the people who paid this horrible price. Let us pay tribute to God through Jesus Christ, after all without his protection against the evil hand "Our Great Nation is Lost". Let this be awake up call to us as a nation and let us repent as a nation for all our evil doings against God. Taking God out of schools, pornography and lustfulness, murdering our unborn children, same sex marraiges and open marraiges, let us read the Word of God. And let us remember him every day in our hearts and minds, not just when we are hurt and sad. Let us repent of our evil as a Nation and Praise God every day. Then we can ask him for his favor in helping us War against evil. Praise God in Jesus Christ Name. Amen and Amen

I REALLY REALLY like the concept. Make it larger, higher, and greater than before. Make it as the largest tallest building on the world. If before, there was 110 floors each, make it 150 floors now. Show to the world that NOTHING can make America down.
God bless America.

Can we learn from our mistakes? Do you think all the dead people buried under 110 floors of steel and concrete would agree with that idea? Build it again and HIGHER? And will you work there every day? Why don't you build you a house that reaches the sky and be a sitting target for crazy people? Come on ! It is our ignorance that got us here. Let's learn from our mistakes and get SMARTER!

First of all, I myself am not an american. I am Indonesian-born Chinese and now am living in Germany for study. Although, I am not american, but I feel the pain as much as American people feel.
If crazy nasty coward childish bad guys really want to do something bad again, they would struck the buildings again no matter how tall the buidings are. Imagine, OK..there was no 110 floors WTC, all are 50 floors and do u think it would stop Osama bin Asshole or his companion or perhaps communist China struck the buildings? It would be worse!!!
3 Planes struck Manhattan buildings. Since the buildings is not so tall it struck larger area. More victims. More destruction.
Pentagon has no such much floors compared to WTC and Pentagon is in 'secure' area, which mean no plane permitted fly on Pentagn area. But, it was still struck.
Do you think, due to this tragedy, America should build no more tall building? Come on...show your nationalism. If they do like what you think, that means America has lost the war before the war has started. The bad guys win and think, 'Hey..we have made them chicken-hearted. We should give them some more, so they really really be a loser and we rule the world, not them'. No more countries in the world would respect America anymore, icluding US allies.
One thing that can prevent them to do this is: More national security and CRUSH them until its root. Give them tough lesson.
WTC has gone and some other building near WTC would be gone too. It's OK. Use the large area to build WTC complex. Not only 2 towers but make it 5 towers. Make it the largest tallest building in the world. Show to the world that America is never never and ever can be chicken hearted. And the world would respect America even more. They would think twice to hurt America.
And you, as American, can be very very proud whenever you travel to foreign country and show ur passport, and say, 'I am American'.
One day, I myself will be American too.

Ah ya, on thing.
I just wanna remind you, not to concent^rate too much on Osama bin Satan. I am afraid there is another country, not Afghanistan which support this action. I really really think that perhaps China who did it. When the plane struck US, the same time in other country, there is a meeting whether to permit China into WTO or not. Then, hours later, China has been a member.

Thank you Sanjaya for your comments.

And to GREAT IDEA, what exactly was the United States mistake that we should have learned from? They complain because they consider the people of the US to be wasteful. Yet here is an example of placing 12,000,000 square feet of office space in approximately 110,000 sf of ground space. Show me the waste in that, prior to those animals turning it into waste.

How did ignorance get us here? What is that supposed to mean? What degree of ignorance on our part could warrant the murder of 5000 innocent people? We were not at war. These were not soldiers. Their families were ignorant that they were traveling off to their last day alive.

I cross a bridge everyday to goto work, should I quit and find a job on my home side of the river just because in a war some of the prime targets are the bridges? What about the factory workers, should they all quit?

There was no lesson here. THAT is the only lesson. What were they trying to show us? Do they think they can scare us into submission because of a random act of violence? Yes random. Who knows where a terrorist may strike? What if they decide that they think houses are a symbol of our freedom and target houses next? Where can you hide?

Should we build it back? Hell yes! Bigger and better than before. And stick the SOB that brought down the last ones in one of the concrete footers.

This was a crime against the whole world... not just against USA or against New York....it was *WORLD* trade center, (not New York Trade center...not USA trade center..) everybody should realize that...
it will make the whole world united against the criminals that did it and against the criminal goverments that support them....
As a structural engineer, i can say that
- with the new building materials that are 10 times stronger than steel (carbon fiber), and materials that can absorb huge amounts of energy (kevlar)
- with new finite element design methods (that model seismic, wind, impact.... behavior of a structure)
a new higher and safer world trade center will be build.
Regards
