Hi all,

I just recently upgraded my Win98 to Me
(because I needed to reinstall and my
school library only had Me disks). Things
were all fine and dandy until yesterday
morning.

On start-up I get an error message
"Msgsvr32 has caused an error in
Mmsystem.dll. Msgsvr32 will now close.
If you continue having problems, try
restarting windows." Well, as for other
problems--nothing on my desktop loads,
not my icons, not my start bar, nothing. I
have no visual interface...and Me doesn't
have a DOS interface, and I tried booting
with the install CD-ROM. Nothing
happened. I also tried Dell phone
support, and I've concluded that not
everyone who works there is helpful.

Help!! oh, ya, and thanks :)

ps. it's hard to smile when your computer
is almost hopelessly crashed.

Here is one article on that error. It involves Win98 but since you upgraded from that it might help.

Hi all,

Thanks so for the help, but I'm running up against another problem. According to microsoft.com, i have a corrupt file in my system folder. I need to replace it but I finally got GUI and now it says that the file is in use, that I can't modify it (ie. rename and replace--Remember that I now have ME and can't modify it thru DOS). Is there another way for me to get around this?

Ok, i have done this to my teachers computer, what it most likely is is that you replaced your user.exe file with one from another computer, this file contains information unique to your computer, so putting 1 from another computer will cause it to mess up, BECAUSE WINDOWS ME SUX!!!!!, you cannot boot in dos, so this becomes a VERY hard problem to fix. I have no idea how to fix it since u have me on ur computer, i cannot stand it, in fact i send microsoft an email saying "I have a very large virus on my computer, it is called windows Me, how do i get it off?". :-), figure out how to downgrade to windows 98 and i can help u
