I just put in a new 40g hard drive. Old HD is 8g. The 40g is set as master and I put the 8g in as slave to get some files off of it. I figured as long as it's still hooked up I would like to use it as a storage drive. My question is, can I delete ME and other programs I don't need off the 8g drive without reformatting it to make more space available on it without screwing anything up?

As long as your OS is installed on your Primary Master and you're booting to that drive, then you should be able to delete files from the second (old) drive.
However, I'd recommend that you make the old drive Secondary Master as opposed to Primary Slave.
