Hi all,

Running ME with 850 AMD chip, 40 Gig HD at 7200 and 128 NVRAM

This may seem a strange thing to say, but I have just had a look in my BIOS and found it says the CPU temperature is currently running at 209 degrees C/406F, this just can't be right surely, or have I missed something here, any thoughts welcome.

Steve

Hi,

It could be worth opening your case whilst your PC is running and make sure that the processor fan IS still running.

209C seems to be WAAAY too hot for any processor but for a baby 850MHz !!!! Yikes !

However, I would suspect that it's more likely to be the temperature probe on your mobo that's at fault since I would have thought 209 degrees C would be enough to boil your proccessor into oblivion. In which case your PC would no longer work.

Hope this helps

Simon

have to agree with simon on this one,
209c whoa nelly, seems that would be hot enough to melt the solder, high temp solder melting point is around 221c.
so I would definitely check the cooling fan
and probably replace it with a top of the line heatsink/fan,to be on the safe side.
and you might want to try out 110 alert

Thanks Simon/www for the input, yes I realise this is absolutely not happening, I've checked the HSF (which is far bigger than required for an 850 chip) and all is working well, plus the CPU fan alarm is set in the bios, so my problem must be in the reading of the temp by whoever, I'll investigate this side more closely, cheers.

Try puting plenty of white(semiconducter) glue on ur processor chip...
If this doesn`t do the trick, maybe the scale has run from its normal value....
