1. Recently reinstalled windows ME and have now found that screen saver kicks in as usual after x minutes of inactivity. However, you can't then get back to desktop when you press keys!

Ring any bells with anyone?

2. Related question. When you are unable to shutdown windows for whatever reason. (Everything freezes etc including mouse)I have to switch off at mains before rebooting. I then find that although monitor works the PC itself does not power on. I have to check all spaghetti at back of PC and usually PC switches on.

Ring any bells?

This has happened many times and occurs after windows freezes. Is it some sort of weird power surge etc?

Anxious for response.

Once you get the computer up and running turn off your hybernation feature. It doesn't work for squat on most PC's. Also check your bios.

Sounded familiar.

This happened to me when I installed Win Me. Well the shutting down part hapened to me. When I shutdown the monitored turn black and my mouse pointer was still there. I had to power it down via my surge. What I had to do was update my motherboard to the latest bios and utilities. Dont know what it is exactly called but I called my manufactor of the board for help.
Ring any bells?
