i had to reboot my computer recently due to problems with my cd drive. the computer came with two drives..one that plays cds..the other for dvds..now that the computer has rebooted..only one drive is detected on the computer. In my computer, there is only one drive located. i dont have a cd to install the other drive back because it came installed on my computer. how do i get my other drive back? (btw cd drive is D:; dvd drive is M: i think)

You don't need a disk to install your CD-ROM drive...it should be automatically detected by Windows...
Try booting into Safe Mode...go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager...look for duplicate entries...if you find your CD-ROM drive listed more than once, remove ALL the entries for it, then reboot...Windows should then find & reinstall your device

hello goto my computer right click it choose properties,goto device manager.and see if there are are any problems showing with the missing drive if it is even listed there. allso do a registry search for NOIDE delete any found.reboot after deleteing.

If one shows up and the other does not, it most likely that one has failed. Do both drives show up in the list of IDE devices when the system boots? If you boot from a Windows ME startup diskette does it only find one drive or two. If only one, then the other one died.
