When I installed ZomeAlarm 2.6 for the first time and connected to the internet it worked fine. The next time I started my computer and connected to the internet the screen went blank with a blue bar appearing at the top. I couldn't control+alt+delete out of it, and had to completely restart. It happened a second time, after which, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm. I have Norton's Internet Security installed as well. I tried exiting that first before attempting the second connection, but the same thing happened. Do these programs conflict in some way? About a year ago, I ran them both simultaneously with no problem. I run Windows 98, not Second Edition, but with all the updates. Any help? Thanks.

It should work fine.
It must have been an error when installing. When I first instaled zonealarm it freezed everytime I chose -NO- to a connection request.
I uninstalled and resintalled and it was fine.

I chose "yes" to the connection questions, and also tried a reinstall, but still had the same problem.

sounds like the norton response dialogue window trying to get its ass in front and typically nothing will work unless it recieves a response from you, which is what it was designed to do. Choose one or the other, your asking for trouble trying to get 2 dif types of security sofware to mind the same thing, of course they are going to collide one will try and cancel out the other, you deserve what you got. Nortons inet security has its own firewall yes? If not Use the Norton firwall then you wont be bothering us with your dumass questions.

The reason I wanted to have the two running together is because of the port test available at grc.com. The tests "probe ports" and "test shields", testing how vulnerable a computer is to unwanted outside access. When I tried running each one separately a few months ago, each program blocked access to my computer well, but not perfectly. When run together they blocked unwanted access altogether. At that time they never conflicted with each other, and both were always run at startup. Now, it looks as though they do conflict. I wanted to know if the conflict was between those two programs or something else. After disabling each separately from starting at startup and then trying to connect, it looks as though they can no longer run together. Is there any way around this? By the way, if you don't want to be bothered with certain questions, why do you answer them"???" These help forums have never been only for advanced user questions. The whole point of trying to find answers here is so we don't have to waste time, and maybe cause more damage in the process. And most who do try to help seem to enjoy doing so. Not everyone has countless hours to try to figure out why something is wrong with their computer. I'm sure part of the reason this site is successful is because so many novices and intermediate users have so called "dumass"(spelled wrong, see response 3 above) questions. There seems to be a small group of bitterly hateful, probably very young users that waste MY time with their answers and poor spelling. The best way IS to find the answer on your own, but if we all did that, no one would come here. Thanks.

Try another firewall that has no conflict together. I would recommend you to stay at ZoneAlarm and get rid of Norton. Try Tiny, a very good firewall also. There should be NO PROBLEM using Tiny and ZoneAlarm at the same time. Here is the website for Tiny...

Have you read your own response "???"? I addressed it thoroughly. Am I supposed to be appreciative of an answer that insults? Who cares what you mix in with it? It sure as hell wasn't anything but an obvious answer, anyway, telling me to use one or the other. Like I said, they did work together at one time. And unlike you, Jordy gave me a better solution - that worked! Thanks, Jordy!
