Has anyone had any problems with either the new Iomega ZIP USB drive or the Entrega USB hub3U1E with built in ethernet port? I decided to try out USB and purchased the above mentioned products and a Logitech USB mouse. I have not been very impressed. I ended up reinstalling WIN98 over the top of itself to try and clear up the problems. It didn't work.
First, the Entrega hub seems to work ok but when I call tech support the seem to not exist. The ZIP drive is another story. They have plenty of tech support willing to try and help you but just can't help you. The problem with my USB ZIP is that about 80% of the time if it is plugged into the Entrega hub or the built in USB port on the computer I get a "Windows protection error on boot up". If I unplug the ZIP I am fine to start up and can plug in the ZIP when I get windows up. That is not the only problem with the ZIP. When I try and install my Visioneer PaperPort STrobe Pro software on a ZIP cartrige it continually hangs on large files. Making the disk non-removable and unchecking int13, etc. doesn't help. Straight data copies are fine. I tried using a SIIG PCI USB card to see if it was my logic board and I get the same problem. I returned the SIIG card because it had some problems as well that I am not even going to go into. Now, we get to the Logitech USB mouse. Is USB really that great? I thought it would get rid of a lot of my device conflicts because it would reduce the IRQ device demands. Not so. Now quite frequently I have to wait a second for my mouse to catch up with me. I am thinking about taking all this USB stuff back and trying something else. SCSI might help but the last Adaptec card I got was diagnosed bad by Adaptec Tech support.

I have been experiencing trouble too. I tried to install a USB ZIP to a Notebook with a CMD USB Controller inside. The whole system halted whenever I tried to copy large files. Even formatting under WIN 98 didn't work. Formatting under DOS was fine.
I got the Update for the CMD Controller, but it didn't help.
It somehow reminds me to those old scanners with the single-chip adapter cards...

Blah, I'm having a problem with my usb zip drive too. I also own the entrega 3usb and ethernet hub. I wasn't having any troubles with the hub but as soon as I put the zip drive in, smack, the problems pop up. I installed the IomegaWare program and all the drivers, restart, and as soon as that zip drive gets plugged in, everything seems fine. That is, untill I restart the system. That's where it gets chaotic. Windows boots up and tells me that there's something wrong with my registry and then reboots and puts in an old copy of my registry. Then when it reboots back to windows98 I get some kind of VxB or something or other error. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it, but for now I'm just not installing it. Getting tired of reformating my hard drive and putting in my backup.

hey all, i am also experiencing troubles with my isb zip drive, i have it connected to a sony vaio laptop, when transfering any files the sytem locks up, while talking to a sony vaio rep he told me one big secret, Iomega is attempting to push a new usb standard that no one seems to support, apparently all these problesm should be fixed with windows 98 second edition. which will contain a new usb driver.

I have an Acer Aspire I purchased just 4
months ago. I get a warning when installing
the zip software stating that my usb bus is
not 1.1 compliant. This piece of sh*t is only
4 months old and it's not 1.1 compliant? I
called and email tech support. The
representative on the phone said it’s 1.1 but
the email states 1.0...?I tried the Entrega PCI 4 port USB card, and
the same problems persist. Installed Win 98
second edition and no change.Does anyone know what dictates the version of
the usb port? Is it the chip set on the card
itself, is it in the bios...? Please inform
me.-t

I want to know if somebody can tell me if i can use the iomega Zip 100 USB with Windows NT. I have seen you already had expierences using usb devices. I want to know what software i must download and where it is.
Thank you.

Sorry for my english.

OK, I too am having trouble with my USB Zip
drive. I am using the D-Link DSB-500 PCI
card. I think the problem is that ALL these cards use the ViaTech USB chips. So who
has a non-ViaTech PCI USB card?

Amen to the comment about Via chipsets. I had to change a motherboard in a computer because it had the Via Chipset and USB would not work correctly.
Once swapped, I've had no problems with USB.
