I have a pentium 200, 64 Ram, Win 98, have unregistered WinZip 8. I haven't figured out out to zip up a media sound file (length is 2 min and 20 sec... Audio Format PCM, 44,00HZ, 16 bit stero) I know that is a large file but I am a song writer and want to share some sounds with a friend. I have tried and tried to follow instructions and believe I zipped the file at one point but it I could not get it to send through e-mail though it seemed it was trying. size of file is 23.5 MB. is there a way to compact it more.. what are my options.. any help is appreciated.. Thanks!
the file is too big for e, mail the limit for most e,mail severs is around 1 to 2 mb .. you and your friend can download icq ( www.icq.com ) when you are both online you can transfer those large files via file manager in icq as far as i know you have a direct link to his or your computer with icq there is no file size limit since the transfer is done directly .. im a dj it works for me.. no more zipping needed
ps : if you never used icq install it then go to the icq homepage , you can download all the instructions how to use it and print them for future use.. icq is the best for file transfers believe me all dj,s and musicians use it for large file transfers. i once used it for live broadcast from the club to the internet its great. once you get to know it you will wonder how you ever lived withought it .. ps i want a sound sample of your work !!lol just kidding .. good luck
If you don't want to use ICQ you can convert the .wav file into a mp3. If you don't know what a mp3 is, it's a type of file compression, your 23MEG file will be compressed to about 2MEG. Any of the free download site will have a free program to download to compress .wav's to mp3's. Try http://www.davecentral.com
