Y2K problem
OK, after all this time, seems strange to ask about the Y2K situation. Yesterday I downloaded a bit of software and ony 30% into the installation, up pops a message that my system does not have the Y2K update Mod. 2 installed.
What is this item? I thought if things worked we were all done with this problem years ago and why must it be installed, and where can I get a copy?
Or, do you have a workaround that may avoid yet another download?
Wm.

I assume the error is from the installation and not Windows.
Is this some older software that may have been designed originally for 95? There were some Y2K problems with 95 and an update for them. But it probably wouldn't be a good idea to run the update with 98.
Or maybe it's looking for a specific file associated with your download. Maybe it's also on the site from which you got the download.

Wm,
Is this the update you asked about? The link for it, is on the following page. Oh, and on the subsequent page, you click the "Next>" (button), not the download button, as said. That will bring you to the license agreement page, in which you can download it.
Hope that's what you were asking about. Any further questions on this issue, ask them here, and someone should be able to help.

p.s. Be sure to read about everything involved.

DAVE;
The download site has minimal information. It is an add-on to Autocad. The software was designed for 98 and ME. The few instructions available indicate that it will not work with 95 or earlier. If the missing update file is in the download, it is well hidden.
Error message also says I need to install I.E. version 4.01 or later (of which there is present on the system).
Wm.

I think 98 came with IE 5.0 so you shouldn't be getting that message either. It must be a problem with the installation software.
There were a couple of Y2K downloads for 98 on STAR's link. Since they're for 98 it wouldn't hurt to install them even if they're not needed.
When doing an installation of 98 itself there are some setup switches to disable the checking of certain things like RAM and CPU. I wonder if the software you're attempting to install has that capability also. If, for example, you type 'setup' to start the installation, typing setup/? instead will open a help file (if it exists) for that command. That way even if the installation is giving erroneous messages you may be able to disable them.
Before doing the installation I wonder if temporarily changing the date on your computer to sometime in 1998 or 1999 would keep the Y2K message from coming up.
If there was a readme.txt file with it, was it of any help? Or maybe any kind of FAQ page on the download site?
Other than that I can't think of any way to stop the installation from misdiagnosing your system.

There are two (2) Y2k Updates for the original version of Windows 98 (4.10.1998) maybe you have the first applied and not the second one. You can download it here:
