OS: Win/98/SE
CPU/Ram: 384/133/SDRAM
Product: ASUS/P2L97
Comment:

When my computer starts it only shows that it has 128 Mb.RAM, I have 3 Bars of 128mb./SDRAM/133 installed in the computer.
This should read 384mb. of Ram

Anybody have a solution, other than scrap the Main Board?

Thanks
Sandy

How much memory does it "register" on the POST screen? The full 384 MB?

It registers 131 mb. on screen at post, the diference is likely the memory on the video card.
I put in three bars of 64 mb. ram and it still only would display 64 mb. ram????

Looks like your system needs PC66 RAM. Did you check crucial to confirm?

Your problem may be the type of RAM you are installing. That MB accepts Standard or EDO DIMMS, with or without error checking, but you can't mix them. The density may also be an issue. Page 17 of your manual give more detail. Find the download here:

This model has the i440LX chipset.
The i440LX chipset is especially picky about the ram modules it uses. You cannot use newer modules with 4 chips, or any with 4 X xxxx chips on the modules.

See response 5 in this for some info about ram compatibilty, and some places where you can find out what will work in your mboard for sure:
http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...
Correction to that:
Mushkin www.mushkin.com

There probably be no ram that isn't PC66 listed at those sites.

You don't need to use PC66 ram necessarily as long as other requirements are met.
Most likely to be compatible are older PC100 16 chip modules (8 on each side) or SOME PC100 8 chip modules (on one side), fewer PC133 8 chip modules (on one side).

If you want to try ram you already have,
for examples of PC100 and PC133 ram that I got to work, see the very end of this:
