Write protect error ( on my hard drive)

I have had this computer for about 3 months now. I recently turned the system on and was confronted by a write protect error on my C drive. I tried to format my drive. When the computer trys to write the allocation table though it comes up with the write protect error and will not continue. After restarting my computer I tried to fdisk my drive. When I try to create a primary partion I get a error. So here is the interesting part. I Removed my hard drive and took it back down to the shop. They said that it was faulty and replaced it with a new one. So you would think that the problem is solved right? But the same thing happens again. When I run the win98 setup and I have the same error, etc.( for the same as I have tried before. So I put the hard drive in my very old 200mmx system and it appears to work fine. So is it a hard-drive conflict or is it something else. Help! By the way I don't think that it is a hardware conflict because I had no trouble setting the system up the first.

I had a somewhat similar problem. I couldn't load '98 because there were some bad sectors. What I did was to create a slightly smaller partition than the entire size and it worked fine. In other words, create a partition of about 15 Gb as primary (active) DOS partition and the other as extended DOS parition and try it. Might work. Good luck.

Thanks but I can't create a partition to attempt it. When ever I try to use fdisk to create one I get an error. Plus the system has been working fine for the last three months.I didn't have that problem the first time that I setup up my system. Thanks again anyway.
