hi, i've had quite a few problems lately with spyware and popups and so forth and i have all resolved except one....i keep getting a work offline error box, i get the option to 'work offline' or 'try

Some software installs, for example Enternet, can make MSIE lose knowledge that you are connected full time to the Internet.
Solution 1 .. Try Repair:
Go to control panel, add/remove programs, find explorer 5.5, highlight that and click REPAIR. After the reboot, it should be fixed.Solution 2 .. Quit any PPPoE service (Enternet Access Manager/WINPoet) etc first.
Look in the registry
Using regedit, find the folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck
And check that these two *String* keys are set to auto:
"LoadSens"="auto"
"LoadLCE"="auto"
Create them if necessary!

kennedi, Open Internet Explorer and on the Menu bar click File then uncheck Work Offline, then close Internet Explorer. Now try Internet Explorer again and see if the error message is gone.

Do you think i'm a moron or what??? This box pops up when i'm purposely offline and doing nothing that requires a connection.

Say, folks, I have the same problem (work-offline option box pops up when I am not even on my dial-up connection)and am listening in intently...did either of you find a resolution?
Cheers!

Try the steps below. I had the same issue:
1) Open IE
2) Goto Tools
3) Goto Internet Options
4) Goto Connections
5) Do you have anything listed under 'Dialup and VPN Connections'? I didn't.
6) Click Add
7) Add the connection as needed for your setup
8) Set proxy settings; dialup settings; and automatic config if needed
9) Click 'Never Dial a connection' when the wizard is complete
10) OK out of all the settings
11) Close all IE windows open
12) Reopen IEThe problem should be resolved. I just reinstalled my PC and had this problem start. Never had it before. Followed the above steps and the 'work offline or try again' is gone.
