(1) Go to Control Panel.
(2) Then go to Add/Remove Programs.
(3) Select Windows Setup.
(4) Then select Accesories.
(5) Go to Details and select WordPad.

If this doesn't work, call HP. They must provide a full OS.

Judy, Follow No Joke Host's instructions and click the Have Disk button and browse to the folder where your cab files are installed on your hard drive, click that folder and proceed. You can find out where your cab files are by going to Start/Find/Files or Folders and type in *.cab and make sure your "C" drive is in the "Look in" window, click "Find now" button and note the location of Win98_47.cab file. The cab files most probably are located in C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS(I'm assuming that "C" is the letter of yhe hard drive Windows is installed on). Wordpad.exe(204,800 bytes) is in the Win98_47.cab file in Windows 98SE and belongs in your C:\Program Files\Accessories folder. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas.

It's best if possible to follow NoJokeHost's instructions because there are other files associated with WordPad.

I appreciate that not everyone has .cab files on their computer (unless they put them there). It is just possible that WordPad will work again if you put back only wordpad.exe but the Help will definitely not function.

I will gladly send you my wordpad.exe if you email me. Word of warning though, it is a rather dangerous policy to accept .exe files over the email from strangers because of the virus risk from executables.

Wordpad is crap compared to the freeware program NoteTab. This little program is great, with hundreds of extras such as 1-click text shortcuts (PasteClips) of almost any length, HTML code remover.
I can really recommend it and no, I don't work for the company !
