What makes you think it's not loaded on your system?

Do a search for Wordpad.exe

If you can't find this file then it isn't present.

Go to:
Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup

Double click Accessories and you should find it at the end of the list. If this item isn't ticked then do so and have your W98SE CD ready.

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, Accessories, Details. Place check mark in front of Wordpad and click OK. You may need your Win98 CD.

I have done a search for the wordpad exe and it doesnt find it, also I downloaded something and it wouldnt open it due to wordpad not being there. I also went to start menu, acessories, and it was there but had a yellow symbol on it and didnt open. The problem Im having is that this laptop is older and doesnt have a cd rom and I got it through a friend who didnt have any of the start up disc or nothing. So I dont have any 98 discs or anyhting and whatever I do i have to download it or floppy it as that is all I have. You didn't give the file extension you were trying to open. If it is .doc it should open in Word.

I could send you some WordPad files but it does not always work out too well.

It might be a lot easier to download this WordPad alternative program:
JARTA

I've never tried it but it looks good and is free. If you use it let me know how you get on.

Search the hard drive for .cab files. Usually they are copied to C:\Windows\Options. If found, use the procedure in response #2 or #3. When prompted for the Windows CD, browse to the location of the .cab files.
