My window OS starting giving me trouble with shut downs (it would restart instead) and wouln't do maintenance so I reinstalled 98 as a "refresh". My Word files (office 2000) were all turned into Wordpad docs. I re-associated the files with Word so it opens them, but in properties, they are still Wordpad files even if saved as word docs. Any way to get them back to Word docs?

If you click on one of the files does it open in wordpad or word? If it's wordpad try left clicking on the file to highlight it then, while holding down the sift key, right click on the file. Choose 'open with'. When the box opens scroll down to word. Then check 'always use this program. . . '

Thanks for the input but now that I have reassociated the files of type with Word, they open in Word. Additionally, I changed the file type icon to Word. So....... they look like word files, and open with MS Word but, under properties, they are still Wordpad files not Microsoft Word Documents. I'm not sure what the inconvenience will be but I'd prefer to convert them back if possible. I've talked to a few knowledgeable folks and they've never run into this.
